Writer

Kara writes about everything from scuba diving with sharks to commercial real estate.. For the past 25 years, she’s written for a range of consumer (Profit, SOHO, Toronto Star) and business press. She also wrote soft-cover tourist guides on Ottawa, Chicago and the Canadian Rockies as well as a hard-cover coffee-table book on the Canadian Rockies. In addition, she has created brochures, letters, Web sites, flyers, newsletters, scripts and articles for clients such as Labatt Breweries of Canada, Cadillac Fairview, Maclean’s and many small- to medium-size companies. She worked full-time for Maclean Hunter, Southam Communications and Imperial Life of Canada before striking it on her own. She has since been an independent contractor for 18 years.

Kara has addressed The International Association of Business Communicators, The Society for Technical Communications, Rotary Club, Osgoode Law School and The Registered Graphic Designers of Ontario. Presentation topics included Creating Highly Readable Copy, Cut the Communications Crap, Writing to Sell.

She is a member of the Editors Association of Canada, the Periodical Writers Association of Canada, Toastmasters and The International Association of Business Communicators. In the fall of 2005, she graduated from la Sorbonne, Paris, France, with a French language certificate. She is also a graduate of Ryerson University’s journalism program and in 2000, she completed a 42-hour Ryerson course on Writing for the Internet as well as attending many writing-related seminars.
